Besonder hoë eise word in ons eeu aan die universiteit gestel. Terwyl dit in vroeë eeue hom as’t ware as ’n ivoortoring kon openbaar in die volkslewe of as ’n eiland binne die groot oseaan van die maatskaplike lewensee kon handhaaf of as ’n afsydige inrigting sy eie weg van die onderrig en ondersoek van menslike kennis kon gaan, staan dit vandag midde in die stroom van die menslike denke en handeling, is dit vandag dieintellektuele kragsentrale van waar die volkslewe opgewek word, word dit dié vraagstuk waarheen allerlei wetenskaplike, kulturele en nasionalevrae vir beantwoording gestuur word, en is dit die plek waar alle volksleiersop die gebied van die wetenskap en die kuns, die kultuur en dietegniek opgelei word.Copyright information
